Automobiles(Ford Model T)
One of the most used machines in the twenties was the gasoline-powered automobile. The automobile transportation changed people’s lives drastically in the twenties. The man that made this better and more affordable for people was Mr. Henry Ford. Although the Germans had already come up with the first gasoline powered car in 1880, Ford didn’t just want to make an average automobile, but one that was lighter, faster, and cheaper. He and some investors started the Detroit Automobile Company, where they were able to make cars, but only in a slow painful process. In 1902, Ford left the Automobile Company but continued to design motorcars. In 1903, he started his very own company called the Ford Motor Company. He set out to make cars by mass-production, trying to design a simple, sturdy, low in priced automobile. Ford Experimented with model after model, naming each model after the letters in the alphabet. After months of experimenting, he at last came across the Model T. He was satisfied with model but the cost was too high. A Model T would cost someone $825. Ford then realized that he process in making the car was taking too long. Ford then came up with an assembly line system. This system reduced the time into making the motorcar. Years later, his assembly line system paid off. In 1924, he got the price of the Model T down to $290. This motorcar became the number one affordable automobile in the twenties.
